We focus our research and development on serious health problems that need better treatments, especially in areas that don’t have many options at the moment. We believe the key to treating these conditions is to understand biology better. By studying how and why diseases develop and grow at the cell level, we hope to find new ways to prevent, treat and even cure them.

Our current research includes potential treatments in:

1

Cancer (oncology)

  • Stomach (gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer)
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Bladder and urothelial cancer
  • Other solid tumors

2

Rare Diseases

  • Pompe Disease
  • X-Linked Myotubular Myopathy (XLMTM)

3

Vision loss

  • Geographic Atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration
  • Stargardt Disease

The largest disease area of focus for Astellas is oncology. We are studying therapies for hard-to-treat cancers where few therapies exist.

In our non-oncology programs, we focus on the underlying biology of many disease areas and explore the multiple methods and approaches used to treat them.
